Don’t trust promises — measure. It’s the only honest way to find out whether a VPN makes things better or worse in your specific game and network.
- Measure ping without a VPN. Open our ping test and note the latency to the target you care about.
- Measure speed without a VPN. Run a speed test — for online games, stability and low ping matter more than gigabits, but it’s useful to know your baseline.
- Turn on the VPN, pick a nearby server, and repeat both tests.
- Compare the numbers. If ping is lower and steadier with the nearby VPN server, the route improved — keep it. If it went up, the VPN is only getting in the way in this setup; turn it off or try another server.
- Try several servers. Different nodes give different routes; sometimes a neighboring server in the same country works noticeably better.
